January 2026 News: Railway Survey Strengthens Dholera Smart City Connectivity

As per Dholera's latest news, railway infrastructure planning around Dholera Smart City gained momentum in January 2026. The Railway Administration has started the Final Location Survey for the proposed Bhavnagar–Dholera railway line, marking a key step in improving regional connectivity for Dholera SIR.

The Dholera Smart City project is being developed as a planned industrial and urban region, and transport infrastructure is central to its long-term vision. Road connectivity through the expressway is already progressing, and railway planning now adds another layer of access.

The proposed railway project involves a 65-kilometer broad-gauge line connecting Bhavnagar with Dholera SIR. As of January 7, 2026, railway officials confirmed that the Final Location Survey is underway to study alignment feasibility, land requirements, and technical parameters. Once the survey work is completed, a detailed project report will be prepared and submitted to the Railway Board for approval before construction activities begin.

The primary objective of the rail corridor is to support freight and goods movement, especially for industries planned within Dholera. The project also aims to improve rail access to Bhavnagar Port, which is being developed as a multi-purpose port with container-handling facilities.

The new rail line is expected to improve logistics efficiency for industries operating in and around Dholera SIR. Better rail access can help reduce transport costs, improve cargo movement, and support large-scale manufacturing and industrial operations.

This project also fits into the larger Dholera ecosystem, which includes the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway and the upcoming international airport. Together, these projects are designed to create strong multi-modal connectivity for the region.
